Soon, there will be such a method. A pair of engineers in London have come up with a "building in a bag" -- a sack of cement-impregnated fabric. To erect the structure, all you have to do is add water to the bag and inflate it with air. Twelve hours later the Nissen-shaped shelter is dried out and ready for use.

"The fundamental fallacy underlying Metcalfe's (Law) is in the assumption that all connections or all groups are equally valuable," the researchers report.

The Semantic Web protocols aim to let computers distinguish different kinds of data. Applications could more automatically trade information, for example between an online address book and a cell phone. A Web site could automatically reconfigure itself on the fly based on the needs of a particular visitor. Search engines could narrow down results with greater precision.

The United States of America continued to top the list of largest users, but the biggest rates of growth came from the Asian continent - namely, Japan, the Republic of Korea and China. The PCT is the cornerstone of the international patent system and offers a rapid, flexible and cost-effective way to obtain patent protection in the 126 countries that have signed up to the system.

The researchers cut metallic nanotubes to form electrodes, then deposited one of two organic materials to form a semiconducting channel between the electrodes. It could be used in practical applications in two to five years.

Woensdag 9-3-05 - INNOVATIE - Yahoo reports that iRobot is planning to release a new domestic robot this year. According to Colin Angle, chief executive and co-founder of iRobot, it is not a vacuum cleaner. But, iRobot officials are not saying exactly what it will be. According to the Yahoo article iRobot had sales of $55 million in 2003 and that figures have not been disclosed for 2004. But, there is little doubt that Christmas 2004 was good to iRobot. It is not surprising that they would bring out another product in time for Christmas 2005. I guess we will have to wait and see exactly what their new domestic robot product will be.

Landmarks, however, are an almost indispensable component of directions. They identify places to turn and provide assurance that you are headed the right way.

Researchers from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology are looking to incorporate landmarks into automatically-generated directions using software that models the geographical relationships between spaces and their functions.
