Het investeringsfonds Egeria wil de komende twee jaar tien tot vijftien Nederlandse ondernemingen aankopen. Hiervoor zal het fonds Egeria II worden gebruikt waarvoor het afgelopen jaar bijna euro 300 mln is opgehaald. Dit meldt het Financieele Dagblad.

The only software enthusiasts who are as wide-eyed and fired up as the open-source zealots may be the software-as-a-service gang. My guess is, if you put about 50 from both camps together in the same room, it wouldn't take long for someone to spontaneously combust from all the fervor. Unfortunately, I didn't get to test out that theory, but I did recently have a chance to discuss software as a service with a panel of four VCs and see how they're looking at it these days.

Groningen, Kiadis BV, een particulier bedrijf dat zich richt op de ontwikkeling van geneesmiddelen, heeft vandaag laten weten dat de tweede financieringsronde voor een bedrag van € 4 miljoen met succes is afgerond. Bij deze ronde is hoofd investeerder Life Sciences Partners (LSP) betrokken, alsmede de bestaande Britse investeerder Prelude Trust plc en een nieuwe investeerder, de N.V. NOM (Investerings- en Ontwikkelingsmaatschappij voor Noord-Nederland). De NOM heeft meer dan € 90 miljoen geïnvesteerd in meer dan 120 noordelijke bedrijven.
Kiadis heeft een portfolio aan ontwikkelings programma's gebaseerd op de unieke en gepatenteerde BioSelactTM-platform technologie met een groot aantal verschillende farmaceutische eiwitten voor zowel klanten als voor eigen programma's.
In een commentaar zegt Manja Bouman, CEO van Kiadis: “Wij zijn erg blij dat deze tweede financieringsfase met succes is afgerond. Kiadis heeft nu het vermogen om de ontwikkelings programma’s voor commerciële partners en in eigen beheer versneld aan te pakken zodat we kunnen zorgen dat het bedrijf voorop blijft lopen op het gebied van de technologie bij de ontwikkeling van geneesmiddelen. Met ontwikkelingsprogramma’s voor farmaceutische en nutraceutische partners bereikte Kiadis het break-even-punt in de tweede helft van 2004. We zullen deze nieuwe investering gebruiken ter ondersteuning van de bedrijfsstrategie die zich richt op enzymen met de nadruk op kinases als een van de belangrijkste eiwit doelklassen voor onze ontwikkelings- en optimalisatieprogramma’s.”

In the same year that the international patent system marked the filing of the one millionth international patent application, a record number of applications, just over 120,000, were filed in 2004 using the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). The United States of America continued to top the list of largest users, but the biggest rates of growth came from the Asian continent - namely, Japan, the Republic of Korea and China. The PCT is the cornerstone of the international patent system and offers a rapid, flexible and cost-effective way to obtain patent protection in the 126 countries that have signed up to the system.

Crucell-deelneming Galapagos klaar voor beursgang in 2005

Het Belgische genbedrijf Galapagos Genomics, dat voor ongeveer 20% in handen is van Crucell, heeft het startsein gegeven voor een beursgang later dit jaar. Galapagos wil via deze operatie een completer geneesmiddelenbedrijf worden inzake beenderziekten. Het bedrijf wordt geadviseerd oor KBC, zo schrijft de Belgische krant De Standaard woensdag.

According to Sam Whitmore, editor of Sam Whitmore's Media Survey, over the next 12 to 24 months you will probably see big media companies scarf up these cult destinations, where a growing number of people are going for opinions, analysis and community. "Look at what happened politically," Whitmore said, when blogs hit the big time during the presidential campaign. "The same thing will happen in business, because people know they don't need to head to branded sites for good information. Bloggers can be trusted to be independent and people will turn to self-published experts for information."
